Derry City and Strabane District Council has been nominated for two APSE Service Awards which celebrate the very best in public service excellence.

The Good Relations Team have been selected in the Best Community Neighbourhood Initiative category for their ‘Culture Quarter’ Community Relations Initiative, while Ronan O’Donnell and his team are nominated in the Best Public/Private Partnership Working Initiative category for The Walled City Townscape Heritage Initiative.

Praising both Council teams for their hard work and dedication on being selected as top finalists by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE), Mayor Ald. McClintock said: “I am extremely proud that Council has been nominated for two APSE Service Awards which are open to local authorities across the UK in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“I am also delighted that the APSE Service Awards 2016 will be held here in the city, in our wonderful Foyle Arena on September 8th. I’m really looking forward to the event which provides an invaluable opportunity for information to be shared with other local authorities and organisations.”

The APSE Annual Service Awards were launched 16 years ago and demonstrate the ability of local authorities to pursue innovation within service delivery and implement new approaches, improving the level of service to local communities.

These awards are unique in that they are designed to recognise frontline services that are delivered to local communities, by local councils.

This year’s awards span 21 categories and cover the vast majority of local government frontline service areas.

All of the finalists were required to present best practice case studies in their respective categories, which showed them all to be front runners in implementing innovative ideas that support continuous improvement and adaptation in local services.

The winners of each category will be announced in Derry at the APSE Annual Service Awards Charity Dinner on Thursday, 8 September next.
