Staff release CCTV footage in bid to catch thief

Spar in Moneymore has been the latest business to be targeted after a spate of robberies in the village.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, an individual dressed in a purple hoody made off with a substantial amount of money after gaining forced entry through the store’s back door,
In a bid to catch the perpetrator, the Lawford Street premises has now posted CCTV footage from the break-in on to their Facebook page.
The video has been viewed over 18,000 times and shared by 446 people.
Store Manager, Conor Wilson told Derrynow.com that while they haven’t managed to identify the culprit, the response to their social media campaign has been ‘overwhelming.’
Mr Wilson said: “There had been a number of robberies in Moneymore some months ago, but recently it had calmed down. We are lucky we hadn’t been targeted before now.
“In the early hours of Tuesday morning an individual gained entry to the store and stole a considerable amount of money. They gained entry through the back door of the premises and we believe they used a crow bar or something similar to force the door open.
“We debated whether we should share the footage on social media but thought by sharing it, someone would hopefully be able to identify this person- the more eyes that see it, the better. To date we have had an overwhelming response.
“We just hope that someone out there recognises this individual and comes forward with information” said Conor.
Anyone who has information regarding Tuesday’s break-in are asked to contact PSNI or staff at Spar on 028 8674 7617.
