Man killed in two-vehicle crash on main Derry-Belfast road named

The man killed in a two-vehicle crash on the main Derry to Belfast road yesterday afternoon was Wilson Sherrard from The Fountain area of the city.

The 60-year-old was a passenger in a Mazda car which was in collision with a van on the Foreglen Road near Claudy at around 4.00pm.

Two other men were taken to hospital for injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The father-of-two is best known as a maker of sashes for the Orange Order.

Among those who have paid tribute have been Foyle DUP MLA Gary Middleton.

He said: “Wilson Sherrard was a gentleman who was well known and respected within the community. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

“My deepest sympathy and prayers go to the Sherrard family at this sad time.”
