Concern over the state of some roads in the Creggan area of Derry - MLA wants action taken

SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan has expressed his concern about poor road markings in the Lower Creggan area of Derry.

Mr Durkan said he has been lobbying Transport NI over the past year with regard to the poor state of road markings throughout the city.

He claimed that ‘in many areas they are practically invisible’.

"The lack of action by the Department was put down to budgetary constraints but when it comes to safety, particularly road safety, there should be no expense spared,” said Mr Durkan.

“I am happy that steps have been taken over the past few weeks to address this issue in other areas and that improved road markings along the Glen, Springtown and Northland roads are now in place.

“I would encourage Transport NI to address the areas of greatest need first in this work cycle and make sure that areas in dangerously poor condition, such as the lower Creggan and Westway roundabouts, are made a priority.”
