The Housing Executive has committed to provide an ongoing laneway cleaning programme for Ballymagroarty housing estate in Derry.
The news has been welcome by Sinn Fein councillor for the area, Eric McGinley, who said the Executive had, in recent weeks, “identified a responsibility” for ensuring the laneways in the upper area of the estate were regularly maintained and cleaned.
Cllr McGinley (pictured) added: “This is a welcome development and is part of a programme which will see the HE attempt to identify further areas of responsibility within the estate.
“In conjunction with this positive news I have been working with the Council to ensure the front facing streets and footpaths in the whole estate are given proper attention and I would also welcome the improvements which have taken place recently.”
He concluded: “The residents of Ballymagroarty are entitled to live in a clean environment and this initiative from the Housing Executive is particularly welcome.”
