The son of a Derry woman has died following a stabbing incident in Manchester.

Steven Chadwick, 30, suffered stab wounds to his stomach following an attack in the Harpurhey area of the city last Monday night.

Police raced to the scene at around 11.20pm and found Mr Chadwick (pictured above) with serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital and spent four days being treated for his injuries but sadly died on Friday.

It is understood that the deceased man, who was a taxi driver, had been working on the night he was attacked.

Mr Chadwick’s mother, Rosaleen, whose maiden name was Tierney, was originally from the Creggan area of Derry.

Prayers were said today for Mr Chadwick and his family during services at St Mary’s Church in Creggan.

His family have paid tribute to the 'loving and caring' family man.

They said: “Steven was a loving son, a caring brother and a fantastic uncle to his nieces, nephews and great niece.

“We will miss him with all our heart and he will never be forgotten by all that knew and loved him.

“We want to thank those that have sent messages and kind words and ask that at this sad time we can be left to grieve the loss of our wonderful boy.”

Prior to Mr Chadwick’s death, a man had been charged with attempted murder in relation to the attack.

The man is due to appear in court again on September 29.
