Derry school boy wins Reading for Reflection competition

The Reading for Reflection competition has been won by Ryan Martin, a Year 8 pupil at St.Columb’s College.

The competition was part of the Mayor’s Day of Reflection competition which encouraged young people in the city and district to write a short piece of prose or poetry reflecting on what the words on the new plaque on the city walls meant to them.

The inscription reads ‘In memory of all of those who have lost their lives as a result of war and conflict, from and within the city and district.’

Young people will lead the entire short civic ceremony on Wednesday next, 25 May at 1.00pm in the Guildhall Square.

Included are (from left), college teachers Nuala McGonagle, form tutor, Patrick Lundy, competition co-ordinator and Niamh Scullion, with Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Good Relations programme. 2016-3657MT.
