A housing association has switched off the gas supply at a block of flats in Derry after concerns were raised about the safety of residents living in the building.
Habinteg Housing Association Ltd has cut off the gas supply to the homes in Conar’s Court on the Northland Road after the Health & Safety Executive (HSENI) highlighted concerns about communal flues at the building last month.
The Derry News revealed in 2014 how residents at Conar’s Court were concerned about the flues at the building and the potential impact on their health.
Residents were informed of the latest developments at a meeting with Habinteg representatives on Friday.
In a statement issued to the Derry News, a spokesperson for Habinteg said that they are ‘doing everything in their power’ to rectify the situation.
“We continue to prioritise the needs of our tenants at Conar’s Court; as we have done since being made aware of issues with the gas heating systems following recent servicing,” the spokesperson said.
“This is a situation which we have inherited and are doing everything in our power to put right.”
