Young people across Derry have no reason to be bored this summer with the launch of Derry City and Strabane Council’s latest initiative to ensure kids stay active and entertained throughout those long school holidays.
And parents will be even more delighted to see the start of the £1 summer offer, which opens up a wide range of activities to under-18s for only £1 per session.
The scheme will run throughout July and August featuring a wide range of activities, including swimming, squash, table tennis, badminton, five-a-side, basketball and many more.
Council’s Sport and Leisure Services Manager Paul Tamati said: “We have had an amazing response to our Everybody Active scheme and the £1 Summer offer will complement that programme offering a great choice of activities at affordable prices.
“Council is committed to promoting health and well-being throughout the district and this is a great way to engage with young people and encourage them to try out new activities. All our centres will be included so the programme will be available to young people right across the district and I would really encourage parents to check out what’s available in their area.”
The sessions run every day from July 1 – August 31 until 5.00pm, with final sessions beginning at 4.00pm, and Saturdays and Sundays until closing.
The programme will run at Brooke Park Leisure Centre, City Baths, Derg Valley Leisure Centre, Foyle Arena, Melvin Sports Centre, Riversdale Leisure Centre, and Templemore Sports Complex.
Activities can only be booked on day of play and advanced booking for sessions is not applicable.
Note: The offer applies to individual activity sessions and Main Hall group activities (Football, Basketball & Netball) will still have a minimum charge of £8 to book, and gym admission is excluded at Templemore Sports Complex, Brooke Park and City Baths.
